My sister sent us this CD in the mail*, and I can’t even explain to you how stinkin happy it made me. Last Friday night we put in the CD while we moved furniture around in Penny’s room to get it ready to paint. Once we had done all of our prep work Matt sat down in our new nursery rocker and read while I organized all of the new clothes we’ve been given. For a full hour I folded and refolded tiny little onesies and sample newborn diapers that have come attached to junk mail while grooving out to Zeppy.
I know eventually I’ll have to give in to the squirrely voices of kids singing childrens songs, and that Penelope can’t be raised strictly on classic rock, much to my dismay. But until she knows better, she’ll be wooed to sleep by the soothing sounds of Page and Plant, covered on xylophone.

*You’ll note that I’ve started a new little section in the right-hand sidebar featuring stuff that I’m loving right now. I’ll try to update it at least weekly if not more frequently.

there’s no need to give in to kiddo music soon. there are SO many great albums out there done by real musicians! we have the innocence mission’s kids cd which is fantastic. i’m not a huge fan of all the tracks on the mmw kid album, but the ziggy marley one i’ve heard is awesome. they might be giants has kid music (altho, i am not sure how their kid cd differs from their general fare, which seems rather childish to me already).
i think a kid album is sort of like the christmas album — an easy one for artists to do that appeals to their audience as it ages and feels the same way you do about kiddo music!

cheesy high-pitched kids music is soul-sucking. We like the TMBG. I have to add that you might as well go for the real thing, or something like what’s above (I haven’t heard one but my taste in music is awful and appalling to my husband), because the kids bop stuff, with little kids singing ‘big girls don’t cry’ or something like that (Fergie) is just WRONG.

Huge Zeppelin fan – would be interested in hearing that album. (Alhough Tori probably has their greatest hits album memorized already because I played it often while I was pregnant!)
