Our baby name choices for the current bun in the oven? Oh, you wanted to know? Well here goes.
Would you believe it if I told you that both of these first name suggestions were Matt’s? I never thought I would ever go with his preferences because he basically wants our children to be named after famous jazz pianists or space explorers. As cute as a Buzz or Cleo Hofmann would be, they were over-ruled in favor of my choices which all sounded like British royalty.
But not the two names that we settled on. As soon as he suggested them, I had one of those double-take moments, and was then heard saying, “Yes, yes I think that’s quite correct.”
So here they are. And I will preface this by saying that I am not at all interested in hearing your negative feedback, thankyouverymuch! Pats on the back are welcome, but any and all moaning about that really fat kid you knew in Jr. High by the same name who was a total jerk – those emails can all be sent to Sarah Palin. I believe her personal Yahoo email address is easily accessible via a quick Google search.
If it’s a girl: Penelope Caitlyn – primarily called Penny or Penny Cate
If it’s a boy: Abraham Richard – primarily called Bram or “Bram, Bram the Donut Man” assuming he takes after his mother’s love of donuts.
Why we love them: All you have to do is take a look back at the Odyssey and the Old Testament (and Civil War!) to see that Penelopes and Abrahams throughout time have been strong, wise, and faithful people who led others by their humility and grace. Then the middle name choices are family names, a tribute to people that we love and respect.
So there you have it. Now only a few more weeks til we find out if we’re going to have a Penny or Bram squealing around the house next summer!

Great names! You guys are so on top of things. We have yet to even talk about it. This kid may remain nameless until it’s born!
