Well, I’d Call That Anniversary Weekend A Success

Already I am being TMI on you, and we haven’t even hit labor and delivery yet.

I am eight weeks and one day pregnant today. I am very happy about that.

The day I found out that I was preggers was insane. I was happy because, yay! It worked! But I was freaked out of my ever-loving mind. It was probably going to happen again. For the past few weeks I have had the lowest expectations of any pregnant woman ever. And even though I am standing here past the eight week point – the point where I lost my last baby – I am still scared spitless. Because I’m not out of the woods yet. In fact you’re never really out of the woods.

But the symptoms kicked in with full force, and I found myself gaining a little bit of hope. Last pregnancy, I barely got nauseous at all and felt all around GREAT! Which I know now is a bad sign. This time around, however, I am outrageously nauseous from the moment I wake up until the moment I go to bed. And every time I puke my brains out, I get up and dance at what a great sign that is. Although puking up bananas this morning was not an experience I’d like to ever repeat.

Honestly, I haven’t really wanted to talk about it or get excited about it. Everything in our home is running along pretty much as it always has except that I slam a two liter of ginger ale nearly every day. I am slowly easing into Crazy Happy Pregnant Lady Mode, made better by my sister’s visit last week, but please forgive me for the mellow approach that I might exude. Also, I am sick. A lot. Hampers the thought of cute little polka dotted cloth diapers a bit.

And can I also just take a second to say something that has been on my mind every single day since July 7th, 2009? If you’re a person who has been lucky enough to have little squirts in your life, or maybe a bun in the oven currently (I think I know a million pregnant women right now), your kids are an absolute miracle. They are probably happy and healthy, and it’s truly amazing – the whole gift of life thing. It really is a gift. And I know that a year from now when I am running on two hours of sleep I’m not going to see things that way. I’ll glare over at the howling brat in the corner and curse Matt for ever doing this to me. And I’ll need you to remind me of that fact – that this is all a big, huge, miraculous gift.

Last week I was given the most beautiful opportunity of my life thus far. I watched on an ultrasound machine the bright and fast little heartbeat of my tiny baby. My Little Friend that looks healthy and strong so far.

I love you so much, kid. And your due date is Paul McCartney’s birthday, which rocks my soul.

  • Why, Hello There!

Hey, I'm Priscilla, a New England native who has oddly enough found herself in the South. I'm married to Matt, and together we have a dog, Berlin, a cat, Mojo, and perfect baby girl named Penny. We are Nashvillians by convenience, lovers of good music by design, house renovators by accident, and non-hipster foodies by necessity. Take a stroll around and introduce yourself!
