When Matt and I got engaged after only dating 6 months (crazy, but true!), I was still in the stage of life that some people call “The Honeymoon.” I like to call it “The Stage Where I Hid All Of My Unbecoming Attributes And Also Went Along With His Very Male Sense Of Design Just To Be Certain He’d Show Up On The Wedding Day.” He looks back on those months as the biggest hoax of my life, and I proudly look back on them as keeping my ish together til the bitter end, seeing as I was finally getting him after wanting him for nigh on 5 years.
Because I bit my tongue a lot during that time frame, Matt married me without knowing a few distinct facts about me:
1. I was/am a crazy cat woman.
2. I love animals more than I love most people.
3. A trip to the Zoo is my favorite activity (and/or job).
4. I don’t want to live in a house that looks like a bachelor pad.
This last one has become an issue as I have slowly begun slipping things into our home that I purchase full well knowing that Matt will not like them. I used to be too scared to do this. I didn’t want to make him leave me because of a flowered duvet cover! But I cannot stand it anymore! I AM SO TIRED OF THE BLAND, PEOPLE!
My tactic has been to introduce many touches of the color he loves most, orange. I figure if it is covered in bright orange, he will instantly love it. And this theory is proving true. Here’s a photo of our bedroom which has evolved tremendously over the past 5 years into something I really like. And would you believe it? Matt likes it too!

(Sorry, no before photo… BECAUSE I HATED IT THAT MUCH!)
This weekend I was determined to transform something of his that I had always hated, into something that I loved. We have carted this Eddie Bauer lamp around to all of our many apartments, and each time I resent it more and more. Matt claims that I was there while this purchase was made, but I can’t even begin to imagine letting that happening.
Here’s the sad before picture of it, desperately trying to hide behind a plant:

And here it is with a new $20 drum shade from Target:

I don’t know what’s better about the transformation, the fact that Matt actually loves the new curvacious lamp, or the fact that it makes our living room so very Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow that we very well might have more baby news for you soon!
