I decided last week that I really wanted a Parsons console table. Although I’m not entirely committed to nesting in this apartment since we only have a 6 month lease, it was driving me nuts to have our sofa at an angle with nothing behind it in the corner. And I figured a console table would be of use no matter where we lived.
I wanted the exact design from West Elm without paying $300. So I enlisted Matt to build it. We figured out the best measurements for our space, went to Home Depot, and for $50 and 30 minutes of labor I had my table. I gave it a few coats of white paint and we were ready to go.
Here is Matt building it under Berlin’s intense scrutiny:

The next project that Matt is going to start on is a new coffee table. Although he’s told me he can’t build it until we’re into our house as he needs the tools that are currently in storage. That’s fine. I’ll consider it my Christmas present. Our beat up coffee table which he built the first year we were married is going to be sliced into 2 side tables, painted bright orange, and put on the porch with the Adirondack rocking chairs.

When he gets done building you the coffee table, can he build me one, too?! Pretty please?

So basically you are going onto the West Elm website and telling Matt to build you whatever item catches your fancy? That’s pretty sweet. I would like to see a Hudson low media console myself.

looks like he better go into business! he’s always said he wants to do this in retirement. the winter projects will be coffee table, side tables ala ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40147731 and a sideboard for the dining room. i can’t choose between these two: http://www.westelm.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?partNumber=WE-PRODf289&storeId=17001&langId=-1&catalogId=17002&viewSetCode=E&parentId=WE-SH1FRNSTO&retainNav=true&cmsrc=WE-SH1FRNSTO or http://www.designpublic.com/shop/mash-studios/6794

Hopefully Priscilla’s photography will continue to enhance the appearance of my furniture construction skills.
