Matt has a tendency to collect things. Generally it’s stuff I find obnoxious, like his obsession with music videos. Don’t get me wrong, I love Peter Gabriel. But I have no desire to watch him waltz across the TV screen flanked by psychedelic graphics that give me Grand Mal seizures.
I do, however, heartily approve of his icon collection. This collection was kicked off when his brother returned from Moscow with a beautiful Orthodox painting on wood. When word got out that Matt loved icons, my parents picked this up for him while on one of the 4 cruises they go on annually. I know, tough life.
This is the smallest in stature of all of Matt’s icons, perfect for carrying around wherever you may go. When I catch a glimpse of it standing on the bookshelf I nearly always start humming “It hangs above my altar like they hung Him from a cross. I keep one in my wallet for the times I feel lost.”
